On the Ground Initiatives

Liberty Foundation

Liberty Foundation announced it has partnered with the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico (MAPR) to help promote art conservation and education on the island. The agreement includes a $200,000 donation from Liberty Foundation to support art education programs and art conservation efforts, including the sponsorship of the museum’s Gallery 3 on the third floor and the Research & Study Hall at the MAPR’s Educational Innovation Center.

Fundación Segarra Boerman

Fundación Segarra Boerman has supported Unidxs por el Ambiente, an initiative of multiple environment and ecology organizations, by creating an interactive map of resources and infrastructure, detailing how to contact the resilient centers of these organizations available to help people in an emergency. Most recently, they’ve added workshops to train community leaders in what they need to know in the case of a natural emergency.

Open Society Foundations / Fundación Segarra Boerman

Open Society Foundations and Fundación Segarra Boerman participated in the Hispanics in Philanthropy annual conference, where they hosted a Puerto Rico focused Workshop: Puerto Rico – Pa’ les Nuestres? Climate Justice. This panel highlighted climate justice leaders at the frontlines and the creative ways in which Puerto Ricans are fighting back against displacement and gentrification through an environmental justice lens. The speakers included: Frances Medina, Mariolga Reyes Cruz, Federico Cintrón Moscoso, Alexandra Hertell and Elga Vanessa Uriarte

The Mellon Foundation

The Mellon Foundation announced that it will award Futuro Media a grant to support the production of second seasons of the original Pulitzer Prize-winning podcast series “Suave” and “La Brega.”

Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico

The Puerto Rico Community Foundation (FCPR, in Spanish) is one of the finalist organizations of the System Changes Awards 2022, an annual recognition granted by Catalyst 2030, a global movement of people and organizations committed to executing “bold and novel strategies to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” as promulgated by the United Nations.

Fundación Flamboyán

The Cüirtopia project, an initiative powered by the Fundación Flamboyán Fondo para las Artes, is now an exhibition at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico. Other organizations that supported this project were Banco Popular, Comisión Especial Conjunta de Fondos Legislativos para Impacto Comunitario, Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Ford Foundation and Liberty Business.

Fundación Banco Popular/Fundación Ángel Ramos

Fundación Ángel Ramos and Fundación Banco Popular will launch the first of a series of conferences through the Alianza Puertorriqueña para las Artes this next monday, June 20th at 6:30 pm. The first talk is titled: Las Artes Hablan: emprendiendo un camino colectivo.

Triple S

Triple-S celebrated the First Symposium on Social Isolation and Loneliness in hopes to raise awareness, create an impact and address the situation of weakening social connections in Puerto Rico.

Fundación Luis Muñoz Marín

The Luis Muñoz Marín Foundation has supported the Alianza Cultural para Emergencias de Puerto Rico by organizing workshops centered on the implementation of emergency plans for their collections. All cultural entities, organizations, artists and students are encouraged to participate.

Starbucks Foundation

Baristas del Caribe, operator of the Starbucks chain in Puerto Rico, granted $15,000 to nonprofit organization La Fondita de Jesús as part of the Starbucks Foundation’s Global Community Impact Grants program and in celebration of its 12th annual “Global Month of Good” celebration.

Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation/ Inclusiv

Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation and Inclusiv announced their partnership to make the first US capital investment of $250,000 into Puerto Rican credit unions to strengthen recovery and resiliency initiatives.

First Bank

FirstBank is sustaining its support of the Martín Peña Recicla organization through a donation from its Community Reinvestment Department, which will allow it to make improvements to its headquarters so they can be used as an educational center for the G-8 communities.
