Come and join us in our third Learning Journey of 2023! We will visit Centro Esperanza in Loiza where a group of teenage leaders has started a social enterprise to support the center’s programs. Learning about the local cultural and natural heritage, we will explore equity through these young people’s work.
Centro Esperanza was founded in 1977 in Loíza, Puerto Rico, by the congregation of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul. They are committed to help children, youth and families of Loíza through community development programs which focus on academic and comprehensive education. Some of the initiatives are Montessori del Mar (K-3 school), Melodias de Esperanza (after school music classes), Vida y Esperanza (family counseling and psychological therapy services), La Mochila Alegre (a weekend food initiative for children), and the Heritage Tourism and Community Service Program which will be part of our journey.
Check out their work.
