Serving Philanthropy
2024 Serving Philanthropy Half Year Impact

RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
First, we began the year by welcoming new members Policy Link and reconnecting with our existing membership at our onboarding session. As the year continues, our events were filled with insightful discussions and collaborative efforts. We kicked off the year with an inspiring presentation by the Titín Foundation in February. During our Members Brunch events, Fundación Banco Popular shared their Cimarrona Fund project, supporting Taller Salud and fostering financial inclusion for survivors of gender-based violence. The Hispanic Federation updated us on their successful policy efforts to regulate short-term rentals and their initiative on solar power education funded by the Puerto Rico Energy Resiliency Fund.

Finally, in our May Members Meetup, we explored data about active donors and impact areas in Puerto Rico and discussed the importance of continuing to share information and align initiatives so that we can support social issues more effectively.

Collective Intelligence Initiative
We keep creating tools that can contribute to transparency in the philanthropic field. As part of this effort, we have developed several tools through our Collective Intelligence Initiative so far this year. This quarter we launched the Anaquel de Palabras, a beautiful dictionary of philanthropic terms used by Filantropía Puerto Rico and developed by our team to increase access to language related to the field. We also collected and analyzed data from 59 nonprofit organizations and created the data report “Active Donor Entities in Puerto Rico: 2022-2023”. The report offers a comprehensive view of the active donor entities in Puerto Rico over the course of the past few years with a focus on donor locations, trends, and stability. We also collected data to standardize impact areas in the sector and expand the impact of philanthropic investment on the island.
STRATEGY BUILDING
We have invested a good amount of our membership time together thinking and ideating innovative strategies for our sector. Our membership’s eagerness to discuss impact areas and areas of growth in the philanthropic field increases our ability to build impactful strategies as a collective. As a collective, we have diverse interests and approaches to how we contribute to equity through philanthropic investment. Our Action Dialogues serve as the space where we take collective action that combines all of our strengths and contributions to the field. Every moment we spend together and every conversation we hold in our strategy building spaces takes us one step closer to the future we all want to build for Puerto Rico.
Action Dialogues
Our monthly Action Dialogues focused on developing the Philanthropy Landscape Initiative. We’ve held 6 Action Dialogues where we started examining and co-creating the education, public policy, and arts and culture impact areas.
We had a hybrid Action Dialogue focused on a public policy landscape exercise and discussed public policy issues collectively as a sector. To trace a landscape focused on public policy initiatives from our members, we identified how many of us invest in this type of work. Moreover, we looked into how much we invest and how many organizations we support to advance public policy advocacy work.

Landscapes are essential, they provide an integrated context to inform your grants and initiatives development. Our goal is to have a full picture of all the impact areas we support as a collective and have a bigger picture of our impact.
This exercise highlighted the importance of transparency, diversification, and resource alignment in creating equity. Find the highlights in our google shared doc.
EXPERIENCE
We continuously strive to enhance our members’ experience by closely monitoring event participation and member category trends. Our event participation data provides insights into the popularity of our events. This information helps us tailor our membership service to better meet the interests and needs of our community. So far this year, we have garnered the most interest for our Members Brunch event, showing how enthusiastic our members are about learning from each other’s initiatives.

We also feel very proud to see the growth and shifts within our membership base. This year we are a collective of 23 entities! As the leading philanthropic collective in the island, increasing in numbers allows us to impact the sector in more strategic and robust ways. By analyzing these trends over time, we can adapt our services and engagement strategies to ensure all member groups receive the support and opportunities they need.

These metrics are vital to our ongoing efforts to refine our offerings and maintain a vibrant and active membership community. Thanks for your participation and enthusiasm in all of our events, we are thrilled to serve you and continue expanding the field alongside each one of our members!
