Through the collection and dissemination of this data, we seek to:

  • Recognize active donor entities in Puerto Rico during 2021 and 2022
  • Identify general investment patterns and trends to understand the addressed interests and priorities.
  • Important: Our purpose is to know the active philanthropic entities, but the study is a broader one that includes all sources of income and gives us a broader overview of the fiscal health of the sector.

Active Donor Entities in 2021 and 2022:

  1. Total Active Donor Entities: Increased from 42 in 2021 to 49 in 2022, representing a 16.67% growth.
  2. Most Active Donor Type: Philanthropy was the most active in both years, growing from 27 entities in 2021 to 32 in 2022.
  3. Least Active Donor Type: Private was the least active in both years.
  4. Trends: A noticeable progression in the philanthropic landscape, with philanthropy and public donor types showing growth, while private donor types decreased.
  5. Continuous Support: Several entities consistently contributed in both years.

Number of Nonprofit Organizations Funded by an Active Donor Entity:

2021 (Based on 9 surveyed Nonprofit Organizations):

  1. Total Active Entities: 42 donor entities were identified
  2. Prominent Donor: ‘Fundación Ángel Ramos’ and ‘United Way de Puerto Rico’ were the most prolific, each supporting five organizations.
  3. Trends: Most donor entities (34 out of 43) supported only one nonprofit organization, indicating focused investment.

2022 (Based on 9 surveyed Nonprofit Organizations):

  1. Key Findings: 49 different donor entities were identified.
  2. Prominent Donors: ‘Fundación Banco Popular’ led with support to 6 organizations, followed by ‘Fundación Ángel Ramos’ and ‘United Way de Puerto Rico’.
  3. Trends: Similar to 2021, a majority (40 out of 50) of donor entities funded only one organization, suggesting a continued trend of dedicated support.

Comparing 2021 and 2022:

  1. Growth in Active Entities: Increase from 42 in 2021 to 49 in 2022.
  2. Funding Strategy: Despite more entities, the strategy remained focused, with most entities supporting a single organization.
  3. Slight Diversification: A slight shift towards supporting a larger number of initiatives by some entities was observed.
  4. Statistical Trends: The average number of nonprofit organizations funded per donor entity increased marginally from 1.45 in 2021 to 1.51 in 2022.

Summary:

  • The number of active donor entities in Puerto Rico saw modest growth and diversification in its funding practices between 2021 and 2022. While the core approach of funding one organization per donor entity remained predominant, there was a slight trend towards broader support across more organizations by some entities.
