Action Summary April 2023

From Filantropía Puerto Rico we seek to advance equity, creating spaces where our members can establish and strengthen ties. April had as its main focus exploring the various ways in which they advance and promote equity. We know the diversity of our members and that is why we find it important to understand their philanthropic models and practices. During these weeks we had conversations that gave us perspective on what we have done as an ecosystem.

First of all, the month began with our second Members Brunch of the year where the team from the Fundación Ángel Ramos received us at their facilities and allowed us to learn about their trajectory as one of the oldest philanthropic organizations in the archipelago. As part of the conversation we explore what equity means and the ways in which it is advanced through our organizations. Similarly, our members had the opportunity to connect and reflect not only on what they do and how they do it, but on the challenges we face and the possibilities that open up when we come together as a group.

In addition, our monthly Action Dialogue session revolved around the theme of Equity in Practice, drawing on the perspectives of our members from their experiences with multi-year and operation grants, and selection criteria at the time of awarding a grant. This conversation strengthened the exercise of thinking, comparing and contrasting the various ways in which our members see and act on equity.

On the other hand, as an organization that serves the philanthropic sector, we were co-hosts of the Puerto Rico Energy Philanthropy Roundtable where we have held conversations on the issue of energy in the archipelago and the ways in which we can influence it from the philanthropic sector. In collaboration with the Kresge Foundation, we are working on a landscape of entities and investments that address renewable energy in Puerto Rico with special attention to solar energy. It is important for us to continue having these conversations that put into perspective how philanthropy can support an issue that affects everyone and also ensure that the resources allocated guarantee progress in equity.

Without a doubt, we continue to focus on aligning our spaces to explore new practices that advance equity. We are very excited about what May will bring.
