Fiona Relief: Centro de Apoyo Mutuo Bucarabones Unido (CAMBU)
Gracias al compromiso de todos los donantes de FORWARD Puerto Rico Fund Fiona Relief , hemos podido apoyar a aquellos que apoyan a Puerto Rico de una manera equitativa. Hemos distribuido $720,000 en 10 subvenciones a diferentes Centros de Apoyo Mutuo – CAMs. Estas organizaciones están reconstruyendo comunidades y proveyendo servicios necesarios para movilizarlas desde la crisis hacia la solidaridad de forma rápida y efectiva.
¡La reunión del mes pasado con todos los CAMs fue un éxito! Pudimos hablar sobre cómo cada uno continuaba creciendo, expandiéndose y avanzando equidad desde sus comunidades e iniciativas. Parte del compromiso que tenemos con nuestro ecosistema es compartir el éxito y el progreso de todos los CAMs, por eso este mes estaremos resaltando el Centro de Apoyo Mutuo Bucarabones Unido (CAMBU).
Centro de Apoyo Mutuo Bucarabones Unido, Las Marías is located on the central western side of Puerto Rico. Es conocido por el agroturismo, el café y las naranjas, entre otras cosechas. CAMBU está ubicado en el barrio Bucarabones de Las Marías
Con el slogan: “FROM THE MOUNTAINS | FROM WITHIN | FROM THE BOTTOM UP”, CAMBU desarrolla oportunidades de crecimiento comunitario con experiencias educativas, recreativas y culturales para niños, jóvenes y adultos de su comidad. Entre estos programas y actividades lo están:
- Proyecto de Creación Audiovisual para Jóvenes
- Centro para el Acceso a la Tecnología e Información (CATI) que ofrece mejores oportunidades de acceso a información diversa y equipo tecnológico a comunidades de la zona rural marieña:
- Proyectos que le provee a la comunidad herramientas artístico-culturales para estimular mentes creativas.
- Entre otros proyectos de desarrollo comunitario.

Thanks to the commitment of all of the FORWARD Puerto Rico Fund Fiona Relief donors, we have been able to support those who are supporting Puerto Rico in an equitable way. We have distributed $720,000 in 10 grants to the Centros de Apoyo Mutuo – CAMs (Mutual Aid Centers). These organizations are rebuilding communities and quickly and efficiently providing the services needed to move from crisis to solidarity.
Last month we had a meeting with all of the CAMs and was a total success! We were able to share how each one was continuing to expand, grow, and advance equity from their communities and initiatives. The next meeting may be in-person, so we’ll give you more updates on that soon. For now, you can read about last month’s virtual meeting here.
Part of our commitment to our ecosystem is to share the success and the progress from all of the CAMs, so this month we will be highlighting Centro de Apoyo Mutuo Bucarabones Unido (CAMBU).
First of all, the municipality of Las Marías is located on the central western side of Puerto Rico. It is known as “Pueblo de la China Dulce”, “Ciudad de los Cítricos”, for its juicy oranges, citrus fruits, coffee and agrotourism in general.
CAMBU is located in the Bucarabones neighborhood of Las Marías. With the slogan: “FROM THE MOUNTAINS | FROM WITHIN | FROM THE BOTTOM UP”, CAMBU develops opportunities for community growth with educational, recreational and cultural experiences for children, youth and adults of its community. Among these programs and activities are:
- Center for Access to Technology and Information (CATI) that offers better opportunities for access to information and technological equipment to communities in rural areas of their town.
- An audiovisual Creation Project for Youth
- A project that provides the community with artistic and cultural tools to stimulate creative minds.
- Among other community empowerment projects.
