FLCP: How we embrace active listening
A medida que trabajamos para promover la equidad en Puerto Rico, nos sentimos honradas de ser parte de Funder Listening Community of Practice (FLCP), (FLCP, por sus siglas en inglés) que apoya espacios para que organizaciones como la nuestra avancen su misión. Esta comunidad de práctica organizada por Fund for Shared Insight estamos trabajando con nuevas formas de apoyo para las fundaciones a medida que construimos prácticas de retroalimentación y escucha activa que reflejan y promueven la equidad. Esta iniciativa que comenzó en 2021 (¡Y nosotras fuimos parte de ella!) abrió otra ronda que se llevará a cabo durante los próximos dos años (2023-2024). Las organizaciones elegidas para participar tienen la capacidad de crear recursos de alto impacto y difundirlos a través de sólidas redes de donantes. ¡Estamos comprometidas con la equidad!
El grupo de cohorte, compuesto por representantes de 12 organizaciones de apoyo a la filantropía, junto con miembros del personal de Shared Insight, nos reuniremos regularmente durante los próximos dos años para seguir aprendiendo en grupo y participar de colaboraciones. Todas hemos presentado nuestros Planes de escucha para 2023 (Listening Plans for 2023) donde respondimos las siguientes preguntas:
- ¿Cómo define o piensa sobre la escucha activa (y la retroalimentación) en su organización? ¿Por qué estas cosas son importantes para usted? ¿A qué objetivo(s) sirve?
- ¿Tiene alguna página web o publicación que haga referencia a temas relacionados (en general) sobre la escucha activa y la retroalimentación?
- Cuando mire hacia el trabajo que ha planeado para 2023, ¿dónde se incorporará la escucha activa como tema (y temas relacionados, como quiera que los describa y los defina)?

Fondo Adelante – grantees | junio 2023 | Llevamos a cabo reuniones constantes de Check In-Charging Stations para aprender y escuchar cómo las subvenciones impactan sus misiones. Organizamos seminarios web y discusiones abiertas con los beneficiarios donde alentamos a otros a aprender más de ellos. Además, promovemos que nuestros miembros escuchen a los beneficiarios. Promovemos que los beneficiarios utilicen nuestras cuentas de redes sociales durante un día completo para destacar sus organizaciones. Esto permite que nuestra comunidad aprenda más sobre su trabajo y esfuerzos (promoviendo a otros a escuchar). Usamos una valoración de evaluación al final de cada subvención para saber cómo las iniciativas impactan a las organizaciones y cómo podemos continuar mejorando nuestras prácticas filantrópicas. |

The Funder Listening Community of Practice: How we embrace active listening
As we work to advance equity in Puerto Rico, we are honored to be part of a Funder Listening Community of Practice (FLCP) that supports spaces for organizations like us to advance their mission. This community of practice brought together by Fund for Shared Insight is working on new ways to support foundations as they build feedback and listening practices that reflect and advance equity. This initiative that started in 2021 (and we were part of it) opened up another round that will take place for the next 2 years (2023-2024). The organizations chosen to participate have the capacity to create high-impact resources and to disseminate them through strong funder networks. We all have a deep commitment to equity!
The cohort group — made up of representatives from 12 philanthropy support organizations around the country, along with staff members from Shared Insight, will meet regularly for the next 2 years to keep learning from each other and participate in collaborations. We’ve all submitted our Listening Plans for 2023 where we we answered the following questions:
- How do you define or think about listening (and feedback) in your organization? Why are these things important to you? What goal(s) do they serve?
- Do you have any webpages or publications that reference topics related (broadly) to listening and feedback?
- When you look ahead to the work you have planned for 2023, where will listening as a topic be incorporated (and related topics, however you describe and define them)?

We host webinars and open discussions with grantees where we encourage others to learn more from them. Also, we promote that our members listen to grantees.
We promote that grantees use our social media accounts for a full day to spotlight their organizations. This allows our community to learn more about their work and efforts (promoting others to listen).
We use an evaluation assessment at the end of each grant to learn how initiatives impact organizations and how we can continue to improve our philanthropic practices. |
Forward Fund – members and donors | Situation Dependent | We listen to funders to see what they are looking to fund and if a group if funders has a specific interest we support it throught the FF. In situations we listen to what our members are doing and support and initiative that supports the investments of our membership. (example Fiona, listening amongst them) |
