On the Ground Initiatives

Fundación Ángel Ramos

Recognizing that Puerto Rico is going through a mental health crisis, the Fundación Ángel Ramos (FAR) and the Universidad Albizu (UA) have made an alliance to launch a media campaign and workshops that provide psychosocial support to communities, as well as to the teams of the non-profit organizations that assist them during the recovery process.

FAR is also holding the 25th edition of their prestigious Premio Tina Hills, an award that recognizes the excellence and trajectory of local nonprofits.

Fundación Mujeres en Puerto Rico

The Fundación de Mujeres en Puerto Rico is focused on strengthening the 33 organizations that support the women and LGBTTIQ+ populations on the island, through general operating grants and administrative help.

Liberty Foundation

Acknowledging the vulnerability of Puerto Rico’s energy systems, Liberty Mobile recently donated 19 hotspots with 5G mobile internet to nonprofit organization Solar Responders, to give power resiliency to fire stations throughout the island with solar energy. The hotspots will help fire stations in different municipalities across the island.

Liberty Foundation also donated $15,000 to help with recovery efforts. Learn more here!

Hispanic Federation

Hispanic Federation has made a 2 million dollar commitment to Fiona relief efforts, which include a $20,000 donation in solar panels to the Asociación de Pescadores de La Parguera, located in Lajas, Puerto Rico, one of the most affected municipalities after Hurricane Fiona.

Hispanic Federation has also donated solar panels to fishermen in Guayama, Guánica and Peñuelas as part of their commitment with a just and equitable recovery process for the island. Learn more here!

Titín Foundation

In their efforts to provide wider access to the arts for everyone in Puerto Rico, Titín Foundation supported the Encuentro Puertorriqueño de Gestión Cultural during the month of November. The program brought together representatives of a wide range of artistic, educational and community organizations to hold talks, panels and workshops that address the reality of cultural work on the island and in the diaspora.

Starbucks Foundation

As part of The Starbucks Foundation’s Global Community Impact Grants program, Baristas del Caribe nominated Puerto Rico Food Bank to receive a $15,000 grant to support the nonprofit’s “Mochila Alegre” program to mitigate hunger, improve nutrition, and quality of life for 300 vulnerable children in Puerto Rico.

JC Penney Foundation

Following the devastation from Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico, Dallas-Fort Worth-based retailer, JCPenney, announced it is donating up to 55,000 units of merchandise to Puerto Ricans in need through United Way de Puerto Rico.

Cuna Mutual Group

In hopes of assisting in the recovery process of the communities affected by Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico, Insurance and financial services provider Cuna Mutual Group granted through its foundation $20,000 to nonprofits Techos pa’ mi Gente and Waves Ahead. Techos pa’ mi Gente focuses on the construction of roofs and the rehabilitation of homes in communities affected by natural disasters, while Waves Ahead focuses on supporting the older LGBT+ population and women heads of households.

Friends of Puerto Rico

Through two events held in the US mainland, Friends of Puerto Rico collected more than $30,000 destined to two nonprofit entities that carry out Puerto Rico recovery efforts: Techos pa mi Gente and PRxPR.

Edwards Lifesciences

As part of its 50th anniversary on the island, Edwards Lifesciences announced new donations totaling $50,000 to seven community service and health organizations in Puerto Rico through the Edwards Lifesciences Foundation. The recipients of the donations provide services to the community ranging from preventative health services to childhood development and environmental sustainability.

Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico

FCPR has opened submissions for the Fondo de Becas McConnell Valdés/Antonio Escudero Viera, directed to Law students of the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus.
