- February 04, 2021
This webinar is part of series about the impact of the grants awarded under the FORWARD Puerto Rico Fund, a pool of contributions raised by Filantropía Puerto Rico after Hurricanes Irma and Maria to support recovery efforts.
58% of children in Puerto Rico live under the federal poverty level. In this webinar María E. Enchautegui Román, PhD and Brayan Rosa Rodríguez, both from the Youth Development Institute, proposed actions that the government must take within its first 100 days to reduce child poverty by 50% during the next 10 years. It is possible to reduce child poverty, plus these recommendations would bring economic benefits to the island. Watch the webinar to learn about the public policy realignment and concrete actions that would allow children to get out of poverty and live in homes with economic security.
María E. Enchautegui Román is the director of research and policy at Youth Development Institute, served as interim dean of the Economics Department at the University of Puerto Rico’s Río Piedras campus, was a researcher at the Urban Institute in Washington D.C., and holds a PhD in Economics from Florida State University.
